These teams played a friendly match at Chanonry before a fair attendance of spectators. The teams were: Aberdeen: Smith; Joseph Davidson, John Davidson; J. Anderson, Morren, Ewan; Reith, Macfarlane, Toman, G. Macfarlane, Taylor. Montrose: Ross; McIntosh, Burgess; Clark, Paterson, Thornton; Duncan, Miller, Murray, Dunn, Campbell.
The opening stages of the game were quiet, slow, and uninteresting, Aberdeen having the best of any play that was going. Eventually, Toman with a good shot opened the scoring. This had the much-needed effect of en¬livening play. The home team had still the best of matters, but could not score, and at length the Montrosians burst from their confinement, and with a well-combined rush got on equal terms with their opponents. The position of matters had not been altered when half-time arrived.
Scarcely had the ball been set in motion in the second half when the Montrose men collared it and ran it through the Aberdeen goal. A minute later they repeated this operation. The home team seemed to lose heart, and their play was loose and disjointed and consequently unprofitable. Montrose added two more goals. Towards the close Aberdeen secured a second goal, McFarlane heading the latter through. During the latter part of the game both sides indulged in rough play. The game ended Montrose 5, Aberdeen 2.
