match report 1916-17 fixture list
Div 1 (Old)
Aberdeen 0 - 1 Falkirk
Kick Off:  2:15 PM         Harvie 44
Attendance: 2,500
Venue: Pittodrie Stadium, Aberdeen
Falkirk deserved the points at Aberdeen. Their superiority in attack was apparent throughout, and was not flattered by the result. Simpson and Croal, their right wing, were in fine form, and, with D. Comrie, made the pace hot for the home defence. Harvie scored with a surprise shot just at the interval. The Aberdeen forwards, with weak halves behind them, could make little of the opposition, and Stewart had little to do compared with Anderson. The crowd numbered 2000.

Falkirk were worthy of their win at Pittodrie. The better balanced side, they were distinctly superior forward. The local halves and forwards have to be reshuffled and the week - one of the penalties of wartime - with the inevitable result. In defence Aberdeen can always be depended upon; in attack the occasionally come off. On Saturday they didn't. The Bairns' attack made the pace all through, and their defence had little difficulty in holding up the home attack. Harvey got the one goal of the match a minute before the interval with a pot shot, which Anderson touched but could not stop. Just before the end Aberdeen had a chance of equalising in a rally, but Main and Cummings both lost the leather in the melee. The slippery pitch tended to quiet and the play. Simpson did not risk much to start with. Later he came out of his shell, and gave a fine display. Croall, his partner, and Comrie, at centre, were also prominent. The other Comrie, at centre half, was effective both in defence and attack. Orrock was the better of two good backs; and Stewart as agile as ever, but no better than Anderson, who had a lot more to do. Little can be said against the home defence. When it came to attack, neither halves nor forwards were seen to advantage.
