Gibson Double Seals Victory

The "young Dons" recent run of Premier Reserve League victories left Willie Miller understandably happy, but more than the results themselves,it has been the team performances which have pleased their coach.
Willie is also full of praise for the contribution three players in particular have made to the squad success. "Neil Cooper us doing exactly what he was brought to Pittodrie for - talking the younger players through a game and letting his great experience rub off on the youngsters," says the Aberdeen coach.
"Gary Smith is making excellent progress and should be in the first-team reckoning very soon, while Ian Cameron's attitude towards playing in reserve-team football sets a great example in professionalism."
It is to the greater credit of the Pittodrie second string that their recent victims included Dundee United and Celtic, two of the strongest sides in the competition. It is some time since the young Dons have won at Tannadice, but this victory was more emphatic than the 3-2 final scoreline suggests.
After a first-hal performance which Willie considered the best of the season so far, Aberdeen moved into a commanding 3-0 lead, but the loss of Neil Cooper with a chest injury upset them and they forgot what they had been told about handling a game in such a situation.
Relieved of the pressure the visitors had put them under earlier in the game, United fought back with two goals, the second of them from a last minute penalty awarded for a foul which brought Mark Humphries a second booking and immediate dismissal.
