With seven victories in eight outings behind them, the young Dons have now climed to a respectable fourth place in the Premier Reserve League table - a tribute to the degree to which the younger players introduced into the Pittodrie second string this season have adapted to the senior soccer scene. The latest Premier Reserve League win - 3-1 over Airdrie at Pittodrie last Saturday - was the fifth time in the last eight games that the young Dons had scored three goals - despite missing scoring chances in some of these matches!
Against Airdrie, the misses came in the later stages when the pattern of play was disrupted following the incidents which resulted in Jamie McCarron and two Airdrie players being sent off. Before that, however, goals by Ian Downie (his second in successive games) and Andy Roddie had capped an excellent first-half display in which the young Dons had established their superiority over experienced opposition by working hard and playing to their strengths.
A few minutes after McCarron's 50th minute dismissal for retaliation, Graham Watson added a third goal before Airdrie snatched their consolation counter, but thereafter play became ragged.
