Cup progress for A-team

The Reserve League Cup - an abortive tournament for Aberdeen last season when they stumbled at the first hurdle, going ou to Dunfermline by the odd goal in three at East End Park - has produced a much more promising opening this term. Last Saturday saw the young Dons move into the quarter-finals with an emphatic 5-0 victory over Falkirk in a third-round tie at Brockville.
The Pittodrie side, however, are not having it easy in this competition. They have to travel again in the quarter-finals, this time to face either St Mirren or Kilmarnock in a tie due to be played before the end of this month (February).
The Brockville limelight was seized by Ian Cameron, who, playing through the middle up front, was a constant threat to the home goal and capped a fine performance with a hat-trick. There were, however, other aspects of the victory to encourage coach Willie Miller.
"We showed some slackness early in the game, but, with Gary Smith and Neil Cooper striking up a good partnershp in the middle of the defence, I think Falkirk were allowed to create only one real scoring chance before Andy Roddie put us in front in 35 minutes," said Willie.
"Ian Cameron's three goals in the first half-hour of the second half made victory secure, but it was also pleasing to see Colin Milne coming on as sub to claim the final goal.
This was Colin's third goal in the space of eight days and I hope it is an indication that he is beginning to achieve more of the consistency we have been looking for in his play."
