An Aberdeen team reinforced by the inclusion of a number of players with first-team experience - Gibson, in fact, was an unused substitute - proved too competent for local rivals Cove Rangers and emerged 6-0 victors, with Paul Kane (2), Theo Ten Caat, Peter Van De Ven, Eoin Jess and Brian Grant supplying the goals.
