Fine Display at Cathkin Park.
ARMSTRONG NETS TWO GOALS.
The young Dons continued on their winning way when they visited Cathkin Park and defeated Third Lanark "A." The visitors went ahead in the first minute of the game. Armstrong secured the ball and went clean through on his own to beat Sharp from close quarters. Thirds replied vigorously but Cumming saved brilliantly from Clark at point blank range. The Aberdeen forwards moved like a machine, and the home defence' was often in trouble. Slowness in getting the ball away by a defender let Aberdeen increase their lead. Armstrong, who was showing great form, snapped the ball instantly, and, dashing on, gave the keeper no chance. In the opening stages of the second half the visitors swept all before them, and Sharp had some anxious moments.Hit Crossbar.,/p> Godfrey left go a terrific drive from thirty-five yards out which all but found the net, but the crossbar saved the situation when the keeper was beaten. After having been outplayed Thirds broke away and their first raid brought them a goal. In a race for the ball McCulloch beat Cumming to head into an empty goal. This was greatly against the run of play.
Aberdeen held the advantage later, but the Warriors' defence gave a fine display, and Sharp had little to do. The Dons' forwards were not to be denied, however. Following clever work, Adam secured their third goal near the end. The visitors gave a most convincing display. Had it not been for the soundness of the Thirds' defence the margin against them would have been much bigger.Source: Press & Journal, 3rd October 1932
