Hugh Hay Outstanding at Inside Left
TWO goals from McNeill, their inside right, gave Aberdeen "A" victory in a scrappy game at Pittodrie on Saturday, when tbev beat Raith Rovers "A" 2-0.
In a fairly even first half the home defence was none too steady, and they were lucky to escape with a clean sheet. Christie, the visiting centre forward, threw away three golden opportunities to score. The Aberdeen defence was much steadier in the second half, when the home team did most of the pressing. Now, however, it was the Aberdeen forwards who were not making the best use of their opportunities.
Their outstanding player was Hugh Hay, inside left. He opened up play with long, probing passes and with better luck might have had a goal.
McNeill did some clever things and again seemed more willing than his colleagues to have a shot at goal. His persistence in this respect was well rewarded, both goals coming off speculative shots. He scored the first with a cracking shot from the edge of the penalty area after being held up, and the second was a cross-cumshot that dropped over the 'keeper's head from the right touch-line.
Dick fared quite well in his first competitive appearance at Pittodrie, though he had a formidable opponent in Woodcock, the former Hall and Co. defender.
