This league fixture was played at Pittodrie Park, Aberdeen, in fine weather and before a large crowd of spectators. Teams:- Aberdeen: Bisset; Douglas, Thomson; J. Mackie, Sangster, Brown; R. Mackay, Davidson, C. Mackie, Fullerton, Shiach. Victoria United: Murray; Kilgour, Craig; Drummond, Stronach, A. Murray; Knowles, Duncan, Walker, Burnett, Ritchie. Referee - Mr. Tom Robertson, Queen's PArk.
Although the Vics made but a poor start, they soon rallied, and Bisset was several times called upon to save. Several exciting tussles took plce in midfield, but neither team gained any advantage. After persistent effotrs on the part of the United fowards, however, Burnett was successful in scoring the first goal amid great enthusiasm. When the game seemed to be going all in favour of the Vics, the Aberdeen forwards broke away, and Fullerton had little difficulty in equalising. Bisset's charge was now placed in imminent danger, and, during a scrimmage, Harry Brown accidentally sent the ball into his own side's goal. It looked as if the Whites would again equalise, but the chance was let slip, and the Victoria united had no difficulty in repelling the attack. They did this little piece of work so well that Burnett managed to put through a third goal for the Vics, while almost immediately after a fourth was scored. Just before the call of half-time, Aberdeen secured a second goal. Douglas kicked off a foul, and the ball was headed into the net.
In the second period play was very slow, neither team being able to make any headway. Bisset saved several likely goals, while Murray, the Vics' custodian, had very little work to do. The play was more of a give-and-take character, and no more scoring took place. The Aberdeen were unlucky, as, had they won the match, their chances of winning the flag would have been certain. They are now practically equal with Orion and Dundee A.
