Aberdeen travelled to Montrose on Saturday, and engaged that team in a Northern League fixture. The weather was wet and disagreeable, and the attendance of spectators was only fair. The teams were:- Montrose: Alexander; Allan, Steele; Watt, Bowman, Hebenton; Murray, Towne, Dakers, Inglis, Matthew. Aberdeen: Bisset; O'Brien, J. Mackie; Sangster, Thomson, Robertson; Brash, C. Mackie, H. Livingstone, Davidson, Fullerton. Referee - Mr. Urquhart, Dundee.
Aberdeen started the play, and Fullerton immediately sent in a very likely shot. Alexander, however, warded off the attack. Montrose then put in a spell of pressing, and Bisset had to keep agood lookout. A return to midfield let Livingstone up and after beating Steele he parted to Brash, whose centre was cleverly headed through by Mackie. Play continued equal, and very fast. Once or twice the Montrose forwards came away in fine style, but on the whole they were kept well in check. On the other hand, the Aberdeen front line kept the home defence lively, Brash especially being dangerous. Five minutes before sides were changed, Montrose shook off the attack, and, aided by a free kick, Townes scored.
Shortly after the recommencement of play, Aberdeen secured a goal through C. Mackie. Montrose, at length, came away and equalised, the ball being got through from a scrimmage. Aberdeen got another goal, and the game ended.
