At Central Park, Kittybrewster on Saturday afternoon, in splendid weather, and before a large turnout of spectators, the Victoria United and Aberdeen teams met in a Rhodesia Cup tie. The teams were: Victoria United: Morrison (late Leith Albion); Craig, R. Craig; Duncan, Stronach, A. Murray; Knowles, Burnett, Walker, Ferries, G. Ritchie. Aberdeen: Bisset; O'Brien, J. Mackie; Sangster,Thomson, Robertson; Strang, C. Mackie, Livingstone, Davdson, Fullerton. Mr McIntosh, Montrose, was referee.
The United started off in a very determined manner, and soon gotinto close quarters, but Bisset cleared in fine style. The opening stages were easily in favour of the Pittodrie team. The game was not long commenced, when Fullerton, as the result of a capital run down the left wing, beat Morrison with a difficult shot. The United, who played with great dash, had repeatedly hard lines in not scoring.
On resuming, Aberdeen were the first to become dangerous, forcing a corner, which, however, proved fruitless. A spell of end-to-end play followed, both goals having narrow escapes. From near midfield, the Aberdeen left wing broke away, and carried the ball up towards the United's goal. Davidson crossed beautifully to Livingstone, who, picking up the pass, sent the leather flyng past Morrison into the net. A great mprovement was now shown by the United's forwards, and in the midst of a scrimmage in front of the Aberdeen goal, Walker sent the ball past Bisset. The game now became very fast and exciting. The United continued to show up well, but the Pittodrie defence prevailed. Towards the close Aberdeen scored a third goal. A keenly-contested game finished in favour of the whites.
