The Aberdeen and Montrose teams met in a Northern League fixture on Links Park, Montrose. The teams were:- Aberdeen: Bisset; Drummond, J. Mackie; Sangster, Thomson, Robertson; McKay, C. Mackie, Murphy, Buchan, Paterson. Montrose: Henderson; Allan, Davidson; Lamb, Watt, Keillor; Murray, Steven, C. Valentine, Macdonald, Inglis. Referee - Mr. Banks, Edinburgh.
Montrose won the toss, and Valentine kicked off towards the west goal. Scoring was opened by Montrose half a minute from the start by Keillor, who shot into the corner of the net from a rebound off J. Mackie. Paterson, for Aberdeen, sent in a beautifully-judged shot, and Henderson, the Montrose keeper, was cheered for the clever manner in which he turned it aside. He also saved two capital shots from Mackay and Buchan respectively. Murray was also unfortunate in not scoring from a corner, the ball going over the bar. Montrose then got a penalty kick, one of the Aberdeen backs using his hands in the scrimmage. Allan took the kick, and sent the ball into the net.
The Aberdeen commenced the second half in a vigorous manner, but were repelled. Valentine scored a third goal for Montrose, and a fourth was added from a fine piece of combined play on the part of the ground eleven. Just before the call of time Thomson, the Aberdeen centre-half, was ordered off the field by the referee for fouling Steven.
