These teams met on Saturday on St Margaret's Park, Dundee. The elevens lined up as follows:- United: A. Morrice; Fitzpatrick, Stewart; Smith, Phillips, Fraser; Rodger, Downie, Scott, J. Morrice, Blair. Aberdeen: Macbean; Walker, Macintosh; Mackie, Murphy, Todd; Paterson, Buchan, Singers, Taylor, Shiach. Referee - Mr. Thomas Leggat, Orion, Aberdeen.
Playing with the wind in their favour, Aberdeen opened in promising style, and bore down on the Lochee lines, Paterson and Murphy making strenuous efforts to find an opening. A. Morrice, however, fisted out in capital style, and Lochee eventually bore down on their opponents' line, but Rodger shot wide. The ball was then sent from end to end of the field, the left wing of the Granite City team showing up well. Half-time was soon after called with no scoring.
On resuming Aberdeen were driven back to defend, and although the Lochee men pressed for some time they failed to force the defence. Aberdeen backs were playing a strong game, and now and again the forwards carried the leather to the Lochee line. Scott eventually scored for the Dundonians and Taylor immediately afterwards put on the equaliser. Lochee now forced the play, and added three goals ere the whistle blew.
