Great excitement was manifested over the meeting of Aberdeen and Victoria United in the final of the County Cup at Cattofield on Saturday, and a very large crowd lined the enclosure when the teams took the field as follows:- Aberdeen: Bisset; Walker, Ross; Sangster, Thomson, Murphy; J. Mackie, C. Mackie, Barron, Woodlock, Shiach. Victoria United: R. Murray; Craig, McHardy; R. Ritchie, A. Murray, Robertson; Knowles, Duncan, Lindsay, Ferries, G. Ritchie. Referee - Mr. Black, East of Scotland Association.
Aberdeen set the ball a-rolling, and after a few minutes give-and-take play, Murray was called upon to save a well-directed shot from Woodlock. The Vics forced a couple of corners, but without success. They however continued to press, but were met by a stiff defence from Aberdeen, Sangster being conspicuous for smart tactics. Thomson opened the scoring for Aberdeen, and G. Ritchie soon after put on the equaliser, and a few minutes later added a second goal.
On resuming, Aberdeen took up the running, but their opponents were on the alert, and play was taken to the other end. Murphy eventually made the scores level. Bisset was in excellent form, and saved his team many a time. An exciting game finished in a draw.
