Last night at Pittodrie Park, the final tie for ex-Lord Provost Fleming's charity shield was brought off before a large attendance. Aberdeen and Orion were the finalists, and for the last senior match of the present season the following players turned out:- Aberdeen: Bisset; Walker, Ross; Sangster, Thomson, Murphy; Gaiters, C. Mackie, Macdonald, Buchan, Shiach. Orion: Ritchie; Willox, Grant; Fraser, Low, Brennan; Prophet, Thom, Lawrie, Henderson, Hogg. Mr. . Simpson, Victoria United, was referee.
During the first half play was much in Aberdeen's favour. C. Mackie scored a splendid goal for the ground team.
The game was opened during the second half, and the teams were on a par. Some good passing was shown, and the play was fast. Macdonald scored a second point for Aberdeen, he hustling Ritchie, and the ball over the line, the custodian dallying too long with a low ball.
At the close, Baillie Glass presented the shield to the winners, and, in doing so, said he regretted the unavoidable absence of the donor of the shield, and also of Lord Provost Walker, both gentlemen having intended to be present. Local clubs had done much for charity in the past, and the committee expected to be able to hand over a satisfactory sum this year. Though amalgamation of the three clubs was agreed on, he hoped they would still be able to continue their efforts on behalf of charity. (Applause.)
