The Fair City were severely downed at Muirton Bank on Saturday at the hands of Aberdeen, owing to want of training. There were far too many casualties for the spectator to thoroughly enjoy the game. When Strathearn was removed from the field it was then that the hopes of the Fair City were first knocked on the head. His goalkeeping up to that time was magnificent. The want of Jeffrey was keenly felt by the City men, Prentice making some bad misses. McFarlane played a good game, while the half-back line played better than I have seen them do this season. The forward line was ragged. They never played in unison at any time, nor could it be said that, when individual effort was put fortyh, it was of a high-class nature. Their evolutions were slow, their kicking was weak, while their tackling was not sufficient to meet the occasion. Although it must be admitted that the Fair City were outplayed, bad luck was in no small way responsible for defeat.
The Aberdeen men were all over superior to their opponents. They had a fine turn of speed, while their clever movements could not have been but admired by even the most ardent supporter of the local eleven. Their tackling, too, was very good. Bisset in goal played a splendid game for his side, while Thomson was the better of the backs. The half-back line was very strong, a remark which also applied to the forward line. In short, the Aberdeen won on their merits. I was glad to see a better turnout of spectators, and hope that the citizens of Perth will do their best to support a team which is at present suffering from want of finance.
