Teams representing the Aberdeen and Ellon United Football Clubs met at Pittodrie yesterday afternoon in a friendly fixture. The teams lined up as follows before a fairly large attendance:-
Ellon: Darling; Roberts, McKenzie; Walker, Middleton, Duguid; J. Neilson, Marr, Alexander, Cameron, C. Neilson.
Aberdeen: Newman; Urquhart, Young; Newman, Simpson, Morgan; Stewart, Robertson, Ward, Simpson, Jaffrey.
Aberdeen won the toss, and kicked off with the sun and wind behind. The game was for the most part in favour of Aberdeen, and after a hot fight Aberdeen succeeded in scoring. Play was then transferred to the locals' end, where C. Neilson equalized with a soft shot, which went between the custodian's legs. After some exciting midfield play Alexander gave Ellon the lead by adding another soft goal. No further scoring took place, and at half-time the scores stood - Ellon, 2; Aberdeen, 1.
On the resumption of play, Aberdeen did the pressing. They repeatedly broke through the Ellon defence, and but for the brilliant defence of United's goalkeeper would have scored. From a lovely pass by Stewart, Simpson kicked the ball over the crossbar. On Aberdeen's goal a hot fusillade was being kept up, the ball being several times kicked high over the bar. Following some interesting play, Jaffrey materialized a corner kick and equalised. Board followed soon afterwards and scored with a low driven shot, and added another within 5 minutes. Stewart wrote Aberdeen's score up to five immediately afterwards, and then added another, which was closely followed by Robertson adding the seventh goal for Aberdeen.
In the first half of Ellon had the upper hand, but in the second mostly they were completely outplayed.
