A friendly game was played at Pittodrie yesterday between teams representing the Aberdeen Football Club and the Bo'ness Merchants Association. There was a small attendance when the teams took the field as follows:-
Aberdeen: Hird; Stewart, R. G. Tait; Urquhart, J. J. Simpson, Morgan; James Robertson, Hilton, Ward, "Newman," Edgar.
Bo'ness Merchants: Rooney; Hamilton, Johnston; Stewart, W. Porteous, Hill, Allan, Duncan, J. Porteous, Cuthrell, Nicol
Referee - Mr. Peter Simpson, Aberdeen.
Aberdeen won the toss and played towards the west goal. The game opened briskly, the visitors almost breaking through in the first minute. The visitors showed fine form, but the Aberdeen defence was sound. Aberdeen were not long in finding their feet, and James Robertson forced several fruitless corners. A spell of end-to-end play followed, neither side claiming any advantage. A capital run and centre by James Robertson was headed in by Ward. The visitors' goal had numerous narrow escapes, but Rooney was in capital form, and saved repeatedly. Another good run and centre by James Robertson was converted by Ward. A minute later Ward secured a third goal as the result of a cross from Robertson. The visitors were outplayed in every department, and towards the end of the first period fell away greatly. Their forwards broke away in the closing minutes of the first half, and Stewart, who missed his kick, allowed Porteous to score.
Play was very stale in the second half. Aberdeen had all the play, and gave a fine exhibition game. J. Robertson scored Aberdeen's fourth goal five minutes from time.
