HT Score: Aberdeen 0 - 0 Ellon United

Ellon United scorers: Alexander, Fraser, Alexander, Fraser

21/11/1907 | KO:

In continuance of the new departure of the Aberdeen Football Club directors to provide a midweek match is for those unable to visit Pittodrie on Saturdays, a match was played yesterday between teams representing the Aberdeen and Ellon United Football Clubs. Teams:-

Aberdeen A: Cheyne; J. F. S. Paterson ('Varsity), Hume; Davidson, J. J. Simpson, K. Ross ('Varsity); Wilson, Edgar, McKinlay, Ritchie, Bisset.
Ellon United: Calder; Roberts, Mackenzie; Cowe, Middleton, Walker; Marr, Cameron, Fraser, Alexander, Neilson.

Ellon United kicked off against a slight breeze, and were immediately aggressive. Hume transferred, and Aberdeen had a spell of attacking. Both teams seemed evenly matched, and the ball was for a time kept in midfield. Neilson broke away, and tried a swift shot. Hume stepped in and cleared. The United came back, and were very dangerous on the left. Paterson transfer the venue of attack, and all the local forwards had a try. Calder in goal stood the test well, however, and covered himself with Glory in the eyes of the Ellon contingent. Both teams tried hard to open the scoring, but the defences were good. Half-time arrived with neither team having scored.

On play being the commenced Ellon came away strongly. Nielsen, getting possession, raced up along the touch-line, and passed to Alexander, who sent the ball past Cheyne amidst great cheering. Determined to maintain their unexpected lead, the visitors played up, and Fraser, receiving a beautiful pass from Neilson, beat Cheyne hollow. Aberdeen played desperately for goal, but Neilson, getting the better of Davidson, and finding in Hume a stumbling block, passed to Alexander, who shot without hesitation. The ball hit the upright and bounced past Cheyne. With a three goal lead Ellon were inclined to take matters easy, but not so Aberdeen. A fine centre by McKinley gave Ritchie a chance, of which the inside man availed himself, sending the ball into the net with great force. Neilson was always dangerous, I and, getting possession again, he worked his way in Cheyne's direction, and then transferred to Fraser, who augmented his side's score easily. The game was being fought out in semi-darkness, scarcely any of the players being distinguishable. The Aberdeen forwards work their way up the field, and got the ball past Calder somehow, after every member of the forward and half-back lines had had a try for goal. When time was called Calder was being bombarded with shots of every description.

Ellon were best served by Calder (goal). Neilson, Alexander, and Fraser. Aberdeen's display was a very mediocre one, there being no outstanding men.
