Aberdeenshire Cup Second Round

19/12/1908 | KO:

The second round of the Aberdeenshire County Cup competition was played off in the Bellslea Park, Fraserburgh, on Saturday, in presence of about 1500 spectators. The weather was ideal, but owing to recent rains the pitch was somewhat soft. The opposing teams lined up as follows:-

Hearts: J. Gavin; J. Watt, D. Maltman; W. McKay, Jonathan Duthie, William Colvin; J. Finnie, A. McLean, W. Paterson, George Taylor, W. Burnett. Aberdeen A: King; Hannah, Forbes; Davidson, Macfarlane, Roberts; Hay, Towns, Blackburn, Toman, Ritchie. Reserve, J McConnachie. Mr. Arthur Watt, Aberdeen, acted as referee.

During the first half play was very even, both teams notching one goal. In the second half the superior combination of the Aberdeen team was clearly shown, and the placed goal after goal with unfailing regularity, netting the ball no fewer than seven times before the whistle blew. The hart's men put up a gallant defence, but failed to score. The final result was Aberdeen, 8 goals; Fraserburgh, 1 goal.

Up to the visitors were afterwards hospitably entertained by the home team in the Dalrymple Café.

The "A" Team Win.

At the last nionwnt, the A Team had to undergo several alterations through players being unable to travel. This made the management a little anxious as to the result, while the half-time scere - 1-1 - made still more uneasiness. The final brought good news, and helped to retrieve the blow which the Celts had inflicted. It took the "A" Team some time to get into their swing, on the narrow pitch, while the local lads kept the ball swinging to some tune. At half-time the teams were level, but, on the restart, the visitors got the measure of the home defence, and rushed on seven goals, thus gaining a rather easy victory by 8-1.
Aberdeen A meet the Fraserburgh Thistle in the next round, which has to be played on or before January 9.
