Aberdeen's youngsters took their first hurdle in the new national Youth League in convincing style at the Chris Anderson Stadium with a 2-0 victory over Dundee United, usually among the most formidable opposition at this level. In the absence of youth goalkeeper Kevin Morgan on Under-17 international duty, Aberdeen exercised their option of fielding an overage keeper in Derek Stillie, but the 19-year-old was not overworked.
Robert Bell and Stephen Glass were involved in the build-up which led to Stuart Wilson opening the scoring in the first half, to atone for missing an earlier - and easier - chance, and Dennis Wyness, substituted for the injured Malcolm Kpedekpo at the interval, claimed the second goal, after good work by Tommy Corkan.
