Invernessians Defeated

A small crowd, mostly holiday-makers from the Highland capital, saw Aberdeen. "A" defeat Inverness Thistle by 3 goals to nil in their Highland League encounter at Pittodrie Park yesterday afternoon. The play never rose to a high standard, and Aberdeen played a predominant part throughout. Eight minutes from the start, Armstrong dropped a beautifully taken flag kick right beneath the bar for Edwards to open the scoring. Shortly afterwards Paton almost surprised the Inverness custodian with a raking shot from well out. A tight hold of the visiting forwards was kept by the Aberdeen middle line, and the backs were seldom troubled. Although Aberdeen did most of the attacking, Galloway had few troublesome shots to deal with, Bowie and Edwards being the only ones who sent in drives he found difficult to get away. Cringan was not exerting himself, and was no obstacle whatsoever in the way of the Aberdeen attack. Several, times, however, he put in a little constructive work, but it was not improved upon. Midway through the half, Simpson got into the wars and had to retire. Half-time came with Aberdeen leading by the only goal scored.
The Aberdeen right wing set the pace on resuming. Paton was playing to Edwards and bringing out his speed to some purpose. Cringan came a little more into the picture, but was never an outstanding player in the game. Aberdeen's experimental left wing played tricky but unprofitable football. Bowie worked hard this half, but his shooting was erratic. He picked up an accurate cross from Edwards, and at a second attempt beat Galloway. The Inverness forwards became more effective after this reverse, Wight and W. Fraser being the moving spirits. Twice W. Fraser shot narrowly past with Cunningham beaten. Towards the close Cringan was struck in the stomach with a fast-moving ball and had to leave the field. The visitors battled gamely with nine men, and were often dangerous. After he had one certainty blocked on the line by Thomson, Edwards scored Aberdeen's third goal.
