County Cup For Aberdeen

Aberdeen won the County Cup, defeating Peterhead at Recreation Park in the last of home-and-home finals by three goals to one, making a five-goal victory for the two games. It was a robust game, and Peterhead was seen in the first half making a great effort to reduce the goal disadvantage under which they commenced the match. For the first 30 minutes they were the keener in attack, and ultimately their hammering at the Aberdeen defence met with success, Samuel being the marksman. On play they deserved this goal, but a few minutes later Aberdeen recovered the lost point rather easily. McRobbie was pulled up for an infringement committed outside the penalty box and close up to the rear touchline, and Carrol netted Love's free kick. This reverse played havoc with Peterhead's play. They became unsettled, and failed to maintain their earlier form. They kept their hold of the game, however, until the cross-over. Then Aberdeen took the game in hand. At first they tried long distance shooting, which proved quite abortive, Greig being thoroughly capable to cope with both the high and low balls. On trying to get to closer quarters, they were resisted with the utmost stubbornness, the half-backs and fullbacks tackling with great dash. The goalkeeper's work was brilliant, particularly during a series of rapid bombardments, when with fist and boot he kept his citadel intact. Peterhead managed now and then to shake off the pressure and run down to McSevich, and got a couple of free kicks dangerously near the penalty line, but could make nothing of them. When twenty minutes had still to go Aberdeen went further ahead, Cheyne deceiving Greig with a swift ground ball. From this stage onwards Aberdeen were masters of the situation, and gave the Peterhead defence a gruelling time, during which Carrol secured another goal.

After the match the cup was presented to the winning team My Mr S. Willox president the Aberdeenshire Football Association, and was accepted by Matt Forsyth on behalf of the team. The members of both teams were presented with gold badges.
