Young Dons Score at Will Against Airdrie A
The huge score by which Aberdeen A defeated Airdrie A in the Alliance Shield at Pittodrie on Saturday served to emphasise the painful disparity between the teams. The young Dons scored four goals in the first half and eight in the second period. So completely demoralised were the visitors after the resumption. Adam (5), Warnock (3), Robertson (2), and O'Reilly and Donald were the home marksmen. McIvor snatched one for the visitors. The game was without interest in the second half owing to Airdrie being over-run. The home forwards, halves, and even the backs penetrated the Airdrie defence as often as they pleased. Paradoxical as it may seem the defence was the best part of the luckless visiting side, but even defenders of the stoutest calibre get tired, and the 'Onians' two backs were simply worn down to a state of impotency.Fugitive Flashes
The Airdrie attack showed flashes of aggression before and just after the interval, but despite the fact that the home backs did not appear too sure of themselves on occasions, they never suggested real danger. The home forward line was in sparkling humour, and Warnock and McLean on the extreme wings were full of dash, They had many delightful runs. Adam showed much trickiness at centre, and his shooting was deadly. O'Reilly was the best of the strong half-back line and Cumming in goal foiled the fugitive attempts that were made to best him. J. Morrison, the visitos' right back, and H. Morrison, their goalkeeper, were clever defenders. Broadfoot was the only man in front who ever looked like doing any damage.Source: Press & Journal, 6th March 1933
