Brilliant Display by Waugh in Goal.
BAD FINISHING BY BOTH TEAMS.
Aberdeen A won their Alliance game with Hearts A at Pittodrie much more easily than their two-goal margin suggests. In both halves the young Dons were the dominating force, but indifferent finishing by the home forwards, allied to brilliant work by Waugh in the visitors goal, saw a clean sheet until the second period was well under way. Armstrong showed the way to victory heading through a corner well placed by Johnston, and five minutes later Nicol dribbled close in, following a Johnston cross, and added another. There was no further scoring, but Hearts were well and truly beaten. The game was prosaic, almost to a point of boredom. Apart from their defence, visitors were ordinary company indeed. Waugh, in goal, was positively brilliant, and Hearty, left-back, was a tireless defender.Wing Halves Fail.
The presence of internationalist J. A. Johnstone lent strength to the visitors' mid-line, but their wing-halves generally failed to hold up the quick home thrusts. Lachie McMillan, the former Aberdeen favourite, was the quietest of an unenterprising forward line. There was not shot in the visiting forwards' "locker." The young Dons did not move so sweetly as usual. The defence was never in difficulties and the veteran, Jackson, played a grand game. Joe O'Reilly kept the mid-line steady, and was ever forcing the play. Both Lawie and Nicol, who returned to the side after protracted absences, did well, but Armstrong was easily the best of the van.Source: Press & Journal, 11th December 1933
