Plucky Buckie Side Beaten at Pittodrie.
Aberdeen, represented by their Alliance League side, had an easier passage into the final of the Aberdeenshire Cup at the expense Buckie Thistle, Highland League champions, than the score suggests. Throughout the game it was a case of Aberdeen attack pitted relentlessly against the Buckie defence. The Highland Leaguers held out until fifteen minutes after the resumption when Armstrong, accepting a perfect pass from Gall, beat Wood with consummate ease. The goal was long overdue, but another followed soon after. Smith, the visitors' centre-half, accidentally deflecting through his own goal a hot drive by Adam. Up to the close the homesters maintained their siege, but there was no more scoring. Buckie never gave up hope, and in one desperate raid almost reduced the leeway, an offside decision pulling up Neish when he was clean through. Always the masters Aberdeen should have won by a much bigger margin, but the shooting of their forwards was weak. Adam, Armstrong and Westland were the likeliest home raiders. The mid-line was steady all through, and the defence gave nothing away. Wood, In goal, was the hero of a resolute Buckle defence. Smith was a tower of strength at half-back, and Gowie, Neish and Mclntosh the best of an attack which, for the most part, was under a cloud.Source: Press & Journal, 26th February 1934
