Young Dons Defy Dundee's Second Half Barrage.
Aberdeen "A" brought off a big coup at Dens Park in defeating a Dundee reserve team which included more than a sprinkling of first eleven men.The Young Dons were perhaps a shade lucky to defy the Dundee barrage which lasted practically all the second half, but they deserved to win the tie because of their pluck. The wind, which was blowing right down the pitch, proved a big factor in the game. The Pittodrie men had it behind them during the first forty-five minutes, and deservedly led at the interval by goals scored by Ritchie and O'Reilly (penalty).
Three Up.
J. Westland increased the Aberdeen lead shortly after the breather, but from this point it became a case of the Dundee attack against the Aberdeen defence. Coats, the Dundee first team centre, could make nothing of Eddie Falloon, who shared with O'Reilly the honours in defence. Both Dundee's goals were scored by Macnaughton, also a recognised First League performer. The woodwork helped the Young Dons on various occasions, but Dundee had only themselves to blame. They were weak in the goal area. Victory went to the better balanced team. Although the Aberdeen attack was blotted out in the last half-hour, the Pittodrie halves were surer of themselves than the home trio. There were no stars in either forward-line, but Aberdeen played more like a team than the home first eleven-second eleven hotch-potch.
