Students Leg Weary at Pittodrie.
There was a real friendly spirit about this game at Pittodrie yesterday afternoon, but nevertheless there were occasional flashes of clever play. A trialist right-half, A. Flax of Edinburgh City, who was playing for the Young Dons, had the misfortune to receive a nasty leg injury which necessitated his retiral. Before receiving his injury he had shown some nice touches. The superior training of the Pittodrie reserves told its tale long before the finish. The students started off brightly and kept up a good pace throughout the first half, but in the second period they showed signs of leg weariness. They never gave up trying, however, and scored a goal in the last minute.Adams' Four.
Smith, in the Aberdeen goal, was badly at fault when the first goal was scored, while O'Reilly and Sharp at back were not seriously tested. Ritchie was the best half, although Gavin was always prominent. In attack Adam attracted most attention by scoring four goals, but Conwell was the brainiest forward. Donald tried desperately hard to score, but his shooting was off the mark. Black, In the 'Varsity goal, had no chance with any of the goals, but had several good saves. Stewart and Milton were two powerful backs, the latter especially taking the eye. After a slow start Couper came away well and finished the best half. Wattie was a fine outside-left, but lacks the "devil" necessary to bring him up to first-class standard. The other winger, Gardner, showed a fine turn of speed, and was unfortunate not to score in the second half.'Varsity Open Scoring.
Five minutes after the start, J. A. MacKay scored for the University, but goals by Adam and J, Weetland gave the Young Dons an interval lead. Adam scored three more in the second period, and Johnston brought the total to six. Wattie scored 'Varsity's second with a strong shot, just before the finish.Source: Press & Journal, 21st March 1935
