Young Dons' Attack Has Punch
Aberdeen's reserve side put up a smart performance at Fir Park where the home team us usually difficult to defeat. There was never much between the sides, but throughout the Young Dons' attach carried a threat to the home defence which was missing from the home van.GOAL ABOUT
For the most part a case of a goal about, Willie Scott putting Aberdeen A ahead early on. A nice goal by Newman levelled matters, but Scott was again on the target. The Motherwell side struggled desperately to get on level terms near half-time, and they were rewarded when Smith got through to beat Kelly. Motherwell were the better side in the opening stages of the second half, and Kelly and his backs were hard pressed. The held out, however, until McGillivray ran through unchallenged to beat Kelly.ISSUE SETTLED
That put more vim into the visiting side, and the equaliser came when Williams smacked the ball past Murray with a fine shot. Both teams went out for the decisive goal after this, and Charlie Smith settled the issue in Aberdeen A's favour by beating Murray near the close. Motherwell A were well served by Brown, Wales, Main, and McGillivray. While stars for the visitors were Kelly, Graham, Waddell, and Williams.Source: Press & Journal, 5th September 1938
