POWERFUL RANGERS WIN BY THREE CLEAR GOALS
Fighting pluckily against a powerful Rangers team, the Aberdeen reserves went down with colours flying at Ibrox. They put up a terrific fight after the interval, but were just hardly good enough. Both sides missed penalties in the first half, Brady being sinner for the Dons before Rangers had opened their account. Duncanson put the Ibrox colts ahead with lovely goal, and after Galloway had missed penalty the same player put Rangers further ahead. Rangers were not so dominant in the second half, and their only goal in this period was scored by Smith. Despite persistent efforts the visitors failed to open their account. Best for Rangers were Cowan, Cheyne, Simpson, and Galloway, while Aberdeen were best served by Newman, in goal; Grant, Scott and Hume.Source: Press & Journal, 1st May 1939
