Aberdeen Reserves fully merited their 2-0 win at Fir Park. Right from the kick-off they assumed command, and it was only for ten minutes at the start the half that Motherwell made a game of it.
The visitors had good wing half-backs in Merchant and Anderson, both of whom were suited to the heavy ground and plied their forwards with long, through passes. Hume and Newman opened out play well, and good leading-up work brought a goal by Preston in the twentieth minute.
Motherwell were handicapped when centre-forward Leitch retired as a result of an old injury, but even so Aberdeen always looked the better team. They increased their total in the second half through Anderson, whose twenty-five yard shot went through a crowd of players into the net.
