Aberdeen "A" did not have matters all their own way in the annual friendly match with Aberdeenshire Junior F.A. at Pittodrie last night.
Training told in the end, however, and after losing the first goal seven minutes after half-time the Young Dons finished comfortable winners by three goals to one.
Strong men in the junior side were Campbell and Garden, the two wing half-backs. They gave Hay and McNeill little rope, and seldom missed an opportunity to urge on their forwards.
The juniors' attack lacked punch. Bett kept McKenzie on the move, but he could not get in a telling shot, while Cowie's speed was not much use against the clever positional play and sound tackling of Alan Rodger, who again showed that he is a useful acquisition to the Pittodrie ranks.
Ian Rodger was the most dangerous member of the Young Dons' attack. He is faster than last season. He got most assistance from McMillan.
Busy Stuart
Stuart was by far the busier goalkeeper in the first half, and had good saves from Stenhouse, Hay and lan Rodger. Martin's only save of note in this half was off a Wallace header.
Seven minutes after half-time a move by Campbell saw the Juniors take the lead. Johnstone fastened on to a through pass, cleverly evaded a tackle by Bruce, and shot into the corner of the net.
Ian Rodger's equaliser nine minutes later was a cute effort following a lob from Glen, and the centre put his side ahead in twenty minutes after McNeill had made the opening.
Stenhouse's goal in the closing minutes was an easy one, as Stuart could only palm the ball out to the winger's feet aftet Hay had had a good shot.
