Young Dons Goal-shy Against Hearts

Lose One-goal Cup Re-play at Tynecastle

FAILING to press home their advantage in the first half, Aberdeen lost the Scottish Second XI. Cup replay against Hearts at Tynecastle by the only goal, scored fourteen minutes after half-time by Allsop.

Though lacking punch, Aberdeen were well ahead on outfield play in the first half, their passing, tackling and thrust keeping the Hearts defence on tenterhooks.
Particularly effective was Hay, at inside-left, his weaving and passing being one of the features of the Dons' forward line.
Pearson benefited, and he romped up the wing and crossed in grand style, only to find Matheson and Whitehead anticipating crosses to the detriment of the ever-forceful Rodger.
Hearts were also goal-shy during this period, and their passing left much to be desired. Liddell, at centre, was not fed as he should have been, balls coming at awkward angles or too short.
On the whole, there was a lot of running about without any brilliance.
Hearts' goal was secured from the rebound of a shot by Durkin. It struck the upright and the inside man had no challenger when he dashed in to score.

Pot Shots

More life came into the game after that, and Hearts, now the aggressors, had some pot shots at goal. Durkin and Liddell each had efforts held by Curran.
It was towards the end that the Dons began to reassert themselves, and there was a feeling that they would at least equalise.
Watters, however, was steady, and despite the wiles of Hay and the fine purveying of the half backs, Aberdeen had to admit defeat.
