Pearson Kept Forward Line Moving
ALWAYS more methodical and compact, the Aberdeen reserve team's greatest difficulty at Central Park was curbing the youthful enthusiasm of the Cowdenbeath forwards. The Young Dons won 3-2.
There were times when the defence was stretched, but the experience and resource of Stenhouse and Harris at wing half and the dominance of Thomson in the middle meant that Curran was seldom in difficulties.
In contrast to the solo efforts of the home attack, the Aberdeen forward line moved with understanding and cohesion. Pearson was the mainspring of the visitors' raids. He lav well back and kept sending over nice crosses.
Ian Rodger gave a splendid display at centre, and after scoring the first goal was unlucky to miss with several other tries.
"Newman" showed some clever touches at inside left and took his goal well. McNeil, the other marksman, formed a useful partnership with Kiddie.
Cowdenbeath measured up to Aberdeen's standard in defence only.
It was commentary on their lack of finishing power that for eighty-six minutes their only scoring reward was a goal from Cameron, left back, direct from a free kick.
When J. Menzies got their second goal he seemed as surprised as the Aberdeen defence. It was one of those shots from a seemingly impossible angle.
