Buckie Rally Surprised Young Dons

SEEING the match at Victoria Park, Buckie, on Saturday one had difficulty in believing it was only a friendly.

In its pulsating second half, with Buckie making an amazing and nearly successful bid for victory over Aberdeen "A" from a seemingly hopeless position, it had all the atmosphere of a cup-tie.
From being four goals down at one stage Buckie fought back to level terms.
Aberdeen made the mistake of being a little too sure of their football superiority. They treated the crowd to some really delightful football in the first half.
Buckie began with a bang, scoring in the second minute through Milne and giving the visiting defence a few anxious moments with dangerous raiding.

Settled

But the Aberdeen boys quickly settled and netted twice within two minutes, through Hay and Rodger.
From then until the interval they did pretty much as they liked. Goals by McNeill, Hay and Stenhouse ran their total up to five.
Buckie, although outplayed, kept plugging away, and before the interval a brilliant piece of work by Martin Buchan, one of the best players afield, enabled him to slide the ball to Massie, who netted from close range.
When, soon after the restart, Massie further reduced the arrears it was the signal for an all-out Thistle assault.
Buchan nodded home a fourth from a corner by Massie, and when with less than ten minutes Lawrie slammed home a brilliant, equaliser the crowd's enthusiasm knew no bounds.
Aberdeen stormed into the attack and it was tough luck on Buckie that just on the final whistle Hay profited from a simple defensive blunder to run in and glide the winning goal home.
