The young Dons failed to overcome a hard working Celtic side in what was a fiercely fought encounter. In a ferocious first half, both sides had opportunities to take the lead, but it was the visitors who stole the advantage when a McParland corner was met by Shaun Maloney who headed home from close range. Duncan and Carella both had chances to equalise before the impressive McParland fired in a shot that beat Mark Peat in the Dons goal, but rebounded off the post.
In the second half the young Celts pushed for the decisive second goal. O'Donoghue nearly drew the sides' level when his shot struck the bar after a fine piece of work oy Tiernan. Celtic sealed victory when Simon Lynch latched on to a Fyfe shot which had rattled Peat's crossbar and fired home.
