Aberdeen's youth squad rediscovered the winning habit when they entertained Motherwell in an Under 18 Youth League fixture at Heathryfold Park, where the excellent playing surface encouraged good football.
The home side however, had to be at their best to produce a 2-0 victory and it was by no means one way traffic, Mark Peat in the Aberdeen goal having to bring off three or four good saves to keep the visitors' scoresheet blank.
A passing movement on the left, culminating in a volley by Fergus Tiernan, brought the opening goal in the ninth minute, and Bob Duncan added a second in 25 minutes, following up to net the rebound when his first effort was blocked.
Aberdeen had four S-form signings, Stephen Payne, Calum McKenzie, Duncan Jones and Murray McCulloch, on the bench, Payne and McKenzie making substitute appearances during the game.
