Report
It was the home side who took an early lead of the game when they were awarded a penalty with only 2 minutes on the clock. Jack Allan made a darting run into the box and was brought down by Fraser Mackie, with the referee pointing to the penalty spot. Grant Marchant stepped up to take the penalty and squeezed it into the bottom right corner.
Aberdeen had a positive period with a number of chances to gain an equaliser. Jack Searle made a good run at the Kilmarnock defence, presenting a threat, before he was brought down and awarded a free kick. Dylan Ross placed the ball before firing a left footed effort narrowly over the right hand side of the crossbar. Aberdeen came close again a minute later when Zak To forced Kilmarnock goalkeeper Dylan Brown into making a low save. Zak To had another chance to bring his side back on level terms when he took a shot from distance however his attempt went wide of the left hand post.
Kilmarnock doubled their lead in the 18th minute when Jack Allan latched onto a through ball, cutting through the Aberdeen defence, and making his way into the box; keeping his composure to release a good finish into the back of the net.
In the 22nd minute, Archie Traynor found the ball at his feet on the edge of the 6 yard box however his attempt on target was blocked by Rodrigo Vitols but the ball fell to Trialist who pounced to slot home the rebound and give Kilmarnock their 3rd goal of the game.
Aberdeen continued to apply pressure to Kilmarnock, creating a number of chances in the 15 minutes leading up to half time. Fletcher Boyd played a corner into the box which was met by the head of Fraser Mackie however it deflected off a Kilmarnock defender and Aberdeen gained another corner. The corner was floated into the box but went above the head of everyone and out for a goal kick. Jack Searle made a great run into the box and whipped the ball across however it was blocked for a corner and Aberdeen were unable to capitalise on the ball into the box that followed.
