Robson Impresses at Left Back for Dons

ABERDEEN emphasised their early-season superiority over Queen of the South in emphatic fashion at Palmerston Park, Dumfries, last night, winning 5-1.

Apart from a spell in the second half, after Queens had reduced the leeway from a penalty kick, the home team were outclassed.
Two great saves by George Johnstone again turned the tide in Aberdeen's favour, and when Wilson conceded a simple third goal, it was all over.
The Dons were not at full strength, having to field three reserves. Ben Robson, who was signed some time ago and is meantime in the Army, gave a grand display at left back in his first game for the League side.
His tackling was good, and he can be marked down as a player with future.
Queens were slow off the mark and could not control the light ball as well as the Aberdeen players.
Aberdeen went ahead in eight minutes. Hamilton scored from close in after Hume had opened up the defence.
A bad pass back by Collier led to the second goal. Williams beat the 'keeper in a tussle for possession, and McCall scored easily from close in.
With Aberdeen two up at the interval the Dons had the match well in hand, but Queens rallied strongly and scored in sixteen minutes. Robson was adjudged to have handled the ball and Matt Armstrong made no mistake from the spot.
Queens were dominant for a brief spell, but found Johnstone in defiant mood.
After half an hour the Dons came again, and when McCall shot from the edge of the penalty area Wilson dived too soon and completely missed the ball.
After this Aberdeen indulged in exhibition football, and Harris added to the lead with a terrific cross shot. In the closing minutes Hume spread-eagled the defence with some brilliant leading-up work, and Williams smacked the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle.
