Aberdeen 4 - 0 Albion Rovers

ABERDEEN'S 4-0 win over Albion Rovers at Pittodrie gave their goal average a boost, but with the three other struggling teams all on the winning side the relegation situation is unchanged.

In point of fact, the Dons didn't play so well as they did against the same side a week earlier, and the points so unnecessarily lost at Coatbridge might still cost them their "A" Division status.
If they do go down and Saturday's display was a foretaste of things to come Pittodrie supporters are going to have an unhappy time next season. Albion Rovers played like a team bound for the lower division, and with Aberdeen only slightly better the result was an insipid display.

Six Away Games,/p> For fully half an hour the Dons gave the impression that they would never get the ball in the net, and it was ultimately a couple of defensive mistakes that enabled them to open their account. They will have to step up on this form if they are to fight clear.
Six of their last seven games are away from home, starting with Hearts this week and Queen of the South the week after. Some people will say that if Morton can win at Tynecastle, Aberdeen can likewise - but they won't on the form shown against Albion Rovers.
The defence wasn't seriously tested, but it took Waddell a long time settle down at centre half. He atoned for one bad slip in the second half by clearing on the line from McLean, who had beaten the goalkeepcr after a solo dash from midfield.
There was a lack of co-ordination between wing half-backs and inside men. Harris had his worst game so far at left half, while Glen fell well below the form showed at Coatbridge. In the circumstances it wasn't surprising that Hather had to do a lot of foraging on his own.

Emery Willing

Emery is willing and eager to chase everything, and took the second goal well. Williams and Rice provided the best bouts of combined play, but on the whole the winger was capably looked after by Kerr, who vied with English at centre half for defensive honours.
Rovers were weak in goal, and McGregor must be blamed for the loss of more than one goal. When Aberdeen took the lead he actually had gathered the ball from Emery's header before allowing it out of his grasp and over the line, with Paterson making a vain effort to clear.
Emery gave the 'keeper no chance with the second goal after English had made one of his few mistakes. Hather wandered into the middle to smack home the third twenty-seven minutes after half-time. McGregor might have been unsighted on that occasion, but he should have prevented the fourth goal.
Williams meandered close in on goal and was able to slip the ball past the 'keeper.
