Five-star Forwards Lacking

Dons Had Chances, but No 'Takers'
By NORMAN MACDONALD

WHETHER or not changes are made in the team for this week's fixture with Hearts is a matter for Mr David Halliday, the Aberdeen manager, and his directors.

Like myself, the majority of the spectators who watched Saturday's game against Falkirk at Pittodrie would welcome them.
The team beaten 2-1 by the "Bairns" was certainly not impressive. Add to this the fact that practically the same side went down 5-1 the previous week at Motherwell and there seems good reason for misgivings.
Falkirk were perhaps lucky to get away with both points. It was a last-minute goal by Brown, the former Whitburn Juniors player, that caused the Pittodrie team's discomfort.
The fact that the left winger was allowed to go through and score an apparently simple goal reflects no credit on the Aberdeen defence. Nor does the fact that the Dons had as many scoring chances as the Falkirk forwards, possibly more, recommend the play of the Pittodrie attackers.

Second Injury

There was not a single Aberdeen player who could be given five stars. George Hamilton looked dangerous until he sustained a second injury after the interval. He received a cut on the head in collision with Henderson in the first half and a stitch had to be inserted in the wound.
Had the Dons' forwards been really efficient they would have retired at the interval with the lead, instead being a goal in arrears. Baird was the biggest sinner. Twice he failed to profit from what appeared to be comparatively simple scoring chances.
Falkirk were by no means an inspiring company, but they seemed to have more vigour and enthusiasm than Aberdeen. In lanky Bob Henderson, at centre half, they had the most effective defender afield. He was not popular with the crowd but there can be no denying he did a good job of work.
Souness, the former Hibs player, was a dangerous outside right, and Anderson, who went to Brockville from Stonehaven, showed some smart touches.
It was Anderson who claimed the opening goal after fourteen minutes' play. From a free kick awarded against Emery at the corner flag Brown crossed strongly. Souness leapt high to head the ball down and the inside left netted from close range.

Equaliser

Emery and Pearson share the credit for the equalising goal after fifty-two minutes' play. Instead of attempting his usual cannon-ball shot the right back cutely slipped the ball to the left and Pearson nipped in to score a neat goal.
Brown's last-minute winning goal came following a long throw-in on the right. The winger gained possession and wandered through to pick his spot in the Aberdeen net.
