Queen of the South 2 - 0 Aberdeen

SHOOT! That's the best advice anyone could five the Aberdeen forwards at present. Goalscoring seems to have become a lost art among the first team players at Pittodrie.
If the attackers are not prepared to take a chance they will never get goals. Saturday at Dumfries was the second blank week in succession.
That in itself is scarcely unusual, but the fact that both against Queen of the South and East Fife the forwards between them did not produce a really worth-while attempt at goal is inexcusable.
A forward may be blamed for missing a chance, but will seldom be criticised for having a go.

THE attackers more than the defenders were to blame for the Dumfries failure. The defence did a good job of work by preventing Queen of the South scoring in the first half. They pulled a zip-fastener across their goal.
The forwards fell down on the job after the interval, when they should have been romping through the Queen's defence.
They were caught in a web of their own weaving. Instead of taking the direct route and shooting at every opportunity, the persisted in a close passing, after you, please, attitude.

THE experiment of playing Shaw at left halt. Lowrie at inside left, and Rodger at at full back could not fairly be judged under Saturday's conditions.
All three played reasonably well. Rodger, in fact, impressed at left back by his keen tackling and sound positional sense.
Whether of not the two others will fill the bill in their new roles remains to be proved. I liked Lowrie at inside left in the first half, and Shaw, who has not appeared at half back since his early Easter Road days, played with intelligence.
It is difficult to see how the Aberdeen club can deny them another chance against Rangers at Pittodrie on Wednesday evening.

Here, in brief, is an assessment the other players at Dumfries:-
Martin - Sound and confident.
Emery - More trustworthy than in recent weeks.
Harris - Hard-working, but not 100% effective.
Thomson - Outstanding in the first half, but less assertive after the interval.
Bogan - Fast and clever; not direct enough.
Yorsion - Still without the zip that characterised his play last season.
Hamilton - Well below his best form.
Pearson - Lively and tricky in the opening period; not enterprising in the second forty-five.
