As the impression appears to exist in the minds of at least one or two Aberdeen F.C. officials that comments of mine largely account for the unhappy results obtained by the Dons, I refrain to-day from discussing the latest failure at Pitlodrie.
In the event of the Dons defeating Hearts next Saturday shall, as I have, of course, always done, twcord them their appropriate measure of congratulation.
I cannot, and I will not, accept from any quarter responsibility for the lack of success at Pittodrie.
I will not be made a scapegoat.
I have a duty - the obvious duty of objective reporting to my paper.
I have duty to the supporters of the team, both in Aberdeen and the North-east.
My keenest ambition is to see the Dons in the forefront of Scottish football. And it is in the nature of things that this newspaper will help in every way, commensurate with its duty as a free organ of public opinion.
If any postscript to these comments need be included it relates to the deplorable time-wasting tactics of the Third Lanark team in the closing stages, when they were leading 3-2.
This is not sportsmanship as we prefer to see it on the football field.
The crowd was quick to express its displeasure.
