GEORGE HAMILTON and Tony Harris started training again at Pittodrie to-day. It is practically certain that the right half will be fit, but it will not be possible to make a decision about Hamilton until later in the week.
Harris has made a good recovery from the groin injury sustained in the third-round replay against Hibs and is now in the process of shaking off the effects of a bout of ’flu.
George Hamilton, who twisted his ankle in a tackle near the finish of the Queen the South game, is the more doubtful. His injury is yielding to treatment however, and he started light training to-day.
If Hamilton is absent Aberdeen F.C. may confronted with a cup semi-final problem. Billy Smith, who deputised on Saturday, twisted his knee: Ewen suffering from a broken bone in his small toe; and Hay had to withdraw from the British Army team which beat Belgium Saturday owing to iniury.
Hay is due in Aberdeen for Easter leave on Wednesday, and seems likely that the Dons’ team selection will be delayed until late in the week.
Ironical
Sturday's draw with Rangers - it was within three minutes of being a win - has probably assured them of their place in "A" Division next season.
The point gained means they can approach the cup-tie with an easy mind. Third Lanark, their opponents, seem destined for "B" Division. Their officials must find it a trifle ironical to see themselves in the penultimate stage of the knock-out tournament and on the verge of relegation.
l went under to East Fife in their last home fixture and as if only a miracle can save them now.
If the Dons are not producing brilliant football they are playing with lots of spirit at the moment. The point they took from Rangers was a valuable one and in the final reckoning it may the Light Blues the League title.
I have often seen a better football contest between the Dons and Rangers than was the case on Saturday. It was a hard game, but the standard of play was ordinary.
The Light Blues missed Cox and Simpson, just as Aberdeen missed Harris and Hamilton.
