Dons In Doldrums

CAN the Dons prevent Rangers bringing off the double? The Light Blues established themselves as favourites for the League flag last night when they registered a 3-0 victory over Motherwell at Fir Park.
They are now a point ahead of both East Fife and Hibs. The Edinburgh side maintained their challenge by beating East Fife 2-1 at Easter Road. The Methil team’s remaining fixture is against Hearts at Tynecastle. They can total only forty-one points.
Hibs has still to meet Third Lanark and Raith Rovers at Easter Road, while Rangers complete their programme against Queen of the South and Dundee.
With successive defeats against Motherwell and Falkirk, the Dons have done little to inspire confidence in their chances of winning the Scottish Cup at the expense of Rangers at Hampden Park on Saturday.
The "Bairns" are now left in the unhappy position of awaiting the result of the remaining fixtures of their fellow unfortunates - Raith Rovers, Third Lanark and Airdrie - before they know their fate as an "A" Division club.

Dons Dumped

Aberdeen took the field at Falkirk night without Fred Martin and Harris. Morrison and Glen deputising.
Falkirk opened the scoring through Delaney in thirty-two minutes, but the Dons were not long in arrears. Hather. who had played fascinating football, equalised with a fast, deceptive shot.
The teams were level with a goal each at the interval.
Falkirk resumed in determined manner, and for a time they were in irresistible mood. In seven minutes Campbell put them in the lead from a pass by Plumb, who was a source of trouble to Mitchell and Shaw.
The same was now running Falkirk's way, and an oblique drive by Brown glanced off Allister into the net, and before the finish Delaney made Falkirk's total four.
