The opening 45 minutes saw Aberdeen at their very best with 5 goals in an 18 minute spell completely killing the match asa contest. Lethal marksman Joe Harper was in an unstoppable mood claiming 4 goals, (a first half hat trick,) and had Airdrie's goalkeeper McKenzie not been in top form he may well have had more! Single strikes by Robb and Boel plus an unfortunate own goal by Jonquin completed the Dons tally. Dons' manager, Eddie Turnbull, was not happy with his sides second half performance however, when Airdrie's front two, Drew Jarvie and Drew Busby gave the Aberdeen defence a very uncomfortable time, and twice within a couple of minutes Bobby Clark saved well from Jarvie with the score standing at 5-3 The result left Aberdeen top of their group ahead of Hibernian on goal difference with the pair set to meet at Easter Road on the Wednesday with a place in the quarter finals at stake.
