After a season out of European football, the Dons Scottish Cup triumph saw a quick return for Turnbull's men. Hungarian opposition in the shape of Honved were the reward but the Dons made the worst possible start in the first leg at Pittodrie. Pusztai was first to react after Clark turned a 25-yard volley on to the post to give the visitors a lead after only nine minutes. Within five minutes Arthur Graham had levelled and Harper grabbed his first Dons Euro goal before the interval to put Aberdeen in front. With seven minutes remaining Steve Murray grabbed an important third. The Dons had to now hope the away goal conceded would not work against them.
