The Dons Under 21's ended their league campaign with a 4-1 win against Partick Thistle at sun drenched Pittodrie this afternoon. Darren Young broke the deadlock on 22 minutes striding forward to smash an unstoppable 25 yard effort high into the keeper's top corner.
Ten minutes later Thistle drew level with almost their first meaningful attack when Shields' cross picked out Colin Miller who netted with a free header at the back post. Leon Mike passed up a couple of good opportunities and D'Jaffo headed over as the Dons went in at the break on level terms.
The second half was only ten minutes old when Aberdeen took the lead for a second time, Darren Mackie crossing from the right for Laurent D'Jaffo to net with a diving header.
The Dons went 3-1 up on 67 minutes when Kevin Souter met Stephen Payne's corner at the near post to nod into the net. The scoring was completed seven minutes from the end when Scott Muirhead drilled Richard Foster's cut back into the net at the second attempt.
Partick had the chance to reduce the leeway from the penalty spot in 88 minutesm, but David Preece made a fine block from Gibson's spot kick.
For Neil Cooper, it was a satisfactory end to what has not been the most memorable of seasons for the Under 21's. "I think they've got some pride back over the last few months. The difference today was that we took our chances in the second half. I was pleased with the young lads' performances in particular so we've got a lot to look forward to next season."
