After a hard fought goalless 120 minutes the match went to penalty kicks which Aberdeen won 9-8. Celtic's last kick, by Anton Rogan was saved by Theo Snelders low at the left hand post and then Brian Irvine stepped up to place the ball accurately past Bonar to win the Dons the Cup.
When youngster Graham Watson came forward to take his turn at the penalty spot the Celtic players encouraged their fans to put extra pressure on him but it made no difference and he fired home with style.
