Aberdeen reached the final of the Bradford City Centenary Tournament thanks to a 2-0 win. A goal in either half from Darren Mackie and Paul Sheerin ensured that Aberdeen will meet Bradford City in Sunday's final following the hosts' 4-2 win earlier in the day. A win that saw Dean Windass grab a hat trick to set up an intriguing contest.
Mackie grabbed the all-important goal in what had been a scrappy opening 45 minutes. The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when McQuilken worked his way down the left and the ball broke into the path of the young striker who made no mistake with his finish. Sheerin and Hinds made good contributions and McGuire looked assured at the back as he made his first appearance of the season.
Aberdeen wasted no time in extending their lead in the second half as Sheerin netted the second two minutes after the break. A great run by Stephen Payne ended with him whipping in a cross, which the keeper spilled and Sheerin pounced to volley the ball into the net. Aberdeen then settled and played some fine football in patches as they continued to gear up for the new season.
